Oakwood Track & Field Soars at Federal League Meet

It was a historic Friday for our track and field program as our student-athletes traveled to Green for the Federal League Championship meet. The Girls team secured 2nd place overall, while the Boys team followed closely with a 3rd place overall finish.

Beyond the team standings, the meet served as a great final competition before some of our athletes head to the State Championship in Columbus. Here is how our athletes dominated the field:
Boys Highlights: Relays and Record-Breakers
The boys' side was characterized by dominant relay performances and individual records.
- Relay Dominance: The 4x800 team (Brody Baxter, Will Foltz, Warren Offineer, and Henry Stephan) "cruised" to a 1st place finish, officially punching their ticket to State. They were joined by the 4x200 team (Caleb Pellegrino, Ruben Chaney, Joel Dunnivan, and Avin Hatchett), who also secured a victory and a trip to Columbus.
- Hurdle Heroics: Ka'Dhen Strebel stole the show in the 110 hurdles, taking 1st place and shattering his own school record. He will be joined at the State meet by teammate DJ Jones. DJ also claimed 1st in the 200 hurdles, with Liam Palmer taking 3rd.
- Sprinting Success: Avin Hatchett capped off a stellar day by taking 1st place in the 200-meter dash.
Girls Highlights: Jones Dominates, Teams Advance
The girls' team put on a masterclass in sprinting and middle-distance running, led by a standout performance from Derriona Jones.
- The Sprint Queen: Derriona Jones was unstoppable, taking 1st place in the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes. This marks the second year in a row she will represent Oakwood in all three events at the State level. Arianna Freeman provided a powerful 1-2 punch for the team, taking 2nd in the 100.
- Middle Distance Power: Madison Speakman continued her 800m dominance taking 1st place, and securing her spot in the State meet this coming Saturday.
- Relay Results: The 4x100 team (Mackenzie Speakman, La'Rhae Hubbard, Arianna Freeman, and Journey Harris) fought hard for a 2nd place finish. Their time from the Stark County meet helped secure their spot in Columbus.
