This past weekend was a landmark moment for athletic program at Oakwood Middle School as two of our wrestlers, Kara Angus and Harper Johnson, traveled to Columbus to compete in the OAC Wrestling State Finals. While Oakwood has had wrestlers travel to the state meet before, this is the first time in school history that we've had girls compete at the OAC tournament! Both girls stepped onto the mats facing the best competition in Ohio, and they did not disappoint.
Kara Angus battled through each match she had. Competing in a bracket of elite talent, Kara went 1-2 on the day. Every match was a "hard-fought" battle that went down to the wire. While she didn't reach the podium this year, her grit set a high bar for every Oakwood wrestler following in her footsteps.

Harper Johnson delivered a historic performance, finishing the day 2-2. Harper showcased her dominance by securing both of her victories by pin. Her relentless effort earned her 4th Place overall in the State of Ohio for the Junior High Girls division!

Harper’s 4th place finish wasn't just a big win for her, but for the entire Oakwood wrestling program. Harper is officially Oakwood’s first and only state placer in school history at the OAC State Finals, for both the boys' and girls' programs.
We are incredibly proud of Kara and Harper for their dedication, their sportsmanship, and for proving that Oakwood wrestling is a force to be reckoned with on the state level.
Congratulations, ladies, on a historic season!
